WH Malbec, 2022

The challenge with Washington Malbec is to capture that Argentine edge without being too aggressive, maintaining a suppleness for approachability. In the vineyard, we focus on the perfect hang time for optimum ripeness, whereas in the cellar, it is about extracting the optimum amount of flavor and intensity while retaining a velvety mouthfeel. This attention to detail is purposeful and an inherent part of our winemaking philosophy – call it the equivalent of Italian nonnas making intricate lace patterns by delicately and repetitively twisting and braiding lengths of thread wound on bobbins. Our Malbec is a singular expression varietal that has a characteristically inky purple hue with tell-tale magenta highlights at the rim. Aromas of blueberry and pipe tobacco mingle with mocha and espresso. This wine is bright and lingering, with gentle tannins and persistent acidity to give the wine structure and lushness.
